[ 5th ANNUAL ]
Wine Tasting Party
Each fall, as the air turns crisp and the days shorten, we gather our community to explore and celebrate one of our most cherished tradition: the McKinley Annual Wine Tasting. This party, now in its fifth year, is a heartfelt homage to our love of fine wines and shared experiences. My husband Shaun, a sommelier, and I, select a new wine region each year to spotlight—bringing a piece of the world to our table.
This year, for our 5th annual gathering, we chose to highlight Washington—the place where both of our journeys began and a region famed for its diverse and rich vinicultural offerings. It's a nod to our roots and a chance to share a part of our personal story with every glass poured.
Each wine tasting party is an opportunity not just to taste but to learn and connect, making each sip an experience and every bottle a story.
Spotlight on Belle and Bottle: Curators of Our Annual Wine Selection
This summer, our paths intertwined with Belle and Bottle, kindred spirits from our own Washington. Known for her grounded approach, she curates wines from small-scale, sustainable vineyards, each with its own unique flair and story.
For our 5th Annual Wine Tasting, Belle and Bottle meticulously selected wines that capture the essence of Washington. Each choice was not just about the taste but also the story of the land and the people behind the vines. Her insight and passion deepened our appreciation, making this year’s gathering especially memorable.

Hosting Your Own Wine Tasting: Insights from Dovetail
Thinking of hosting your own wine tasting? Here are a few insights to make it as delightful and effortless as possible:
Choose a Theme: Like our focus on Washington this year, picking a specific region can add depth and intrigue to your selections.
Curate Thoughtfully: Work with a wine expert or local sommelier to select wines that tell a story and complement each other.
The Gathering Table: Our long table was a canvas of culinary delights—charcuterie, artisan cheeses, and fresh accompaniments—crafted to enhance the wines and foster moments of connection among friends.
Create a Guide: Provide your guests with tasting notes for each wine. This can be a fun way to keep the conversation lively and informed.
Remember Non-Drinkers: Include a few high-quality non-alcoholic wines so that everyone can enjoy the gathering without exception.
